August Highlights

Cranes of the World Celebration

August 12 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Fun for the entire family! Save the date for our annual Cranes of the World Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 12, at our headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Plan your visit here. Here’s what to expect:
  • Hands-on activities for the little Craniacs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including origami crane folding, crane masks and a crane anatomy display.
  • We will also introduce two new tours – Continent of Cranes and a Storytelling Tour that explores the folklore behind cranes. Guided tours will be at 10 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m., along with a Keeper Chat with an aviculturist at 2 p.m.
  • Don’t miss special guest appearances by naturalist and humorist David Stokes at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and our Whooping Crane mascot Hope from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 3:30 p.m.!
  • And, of course, be sure to check out our gift shop, where you can find unique crane-themed gifts, many exclusive to the International Crane Foundation.
  Please join us and celebrate cranes around the world! Daily admission is $12.50 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and over, and $6 for youth ages 6-17. Children five and under and Members are free. For more information about the day, please call 608-356-9462 ext. 121.

Stories in the Park encourages literacy through active play and movement, songs, music, and cooperative games. Stay and play at the playground or visit the zoo afterwards. This program is intended for toddlers-preschoolers, but all ages are welcome.

Special event for Hope House of South Central Wisconsin, raising funds for their shelter and their work with domestic violence and sexual assault and trafficking victims in Sauk, Columbia, Adams, Marquette, and Juneau counties. Top Shelf has been called “Madison’s most versatile duo.” Tracy Jane Comer (keys, guitar, vocals) and Alan M. (percussion, vocals) perform music from many decades and styles, with a “heavy pour” of great radio hits from the ’70s/’80s and ’90s…everything from classic rock to classic country plus a touch of blues and jazz. Jackson Taylor is from Medford, Wisconsin and currently resides in Weston, Wi. He covers acoustic country music from 90’s to present along with many originals. In 2018 he released his first single “Let the Night Begin” and in 2022 an EP followed, “Pray Like Hell.” In June 2022 he released the single “Painting Pictures” Playing 70 different venues and close to 175 shows in 2022, Jackson likes to keep things real and authentic. Ladies join us for a Farm to Table Tour. During the tour, you’ll see firsthand how sustainable agriculture works, how what is grown in the ground goes through a process to reach the kitchen table or the handcrafted skincare products.
