Looking for Winter Fun in the Baraboo Area ? Check out this blog for the fun things to do with the whole family this winter! The Baraboo area offers lots of outdoor activities! From skiing to ice skating, there’s something for everyone.
Check out Cascade Mountain! Hit the slopes or tube down the 900’ long chutes. With many lodging partners in the Wisconsin Dells and Portage areas, Cascade has it all! Ski, snowboard and tube rentals are available in the main buildings. They also have a restaurant located on the premises.
Devil’s Head Resort is located in Merrimac and offers beautiful scenery overlooking the Baraboo bluffs. The slopes are just perfect for skiers and snowboarders of any performance level. They also have a 3-1/2 mile trail for cross-country skiing. It is a very popular place in the winter for locals. The resort also includes a hotel with a pool, hot tub, and game room. They have a few restaurants within the resort as well.
On Sat Feb. 1st, at Mirror Lake State Park, there will be a self-guided snowshoe and cross-country candlelight hike from 6 – 8PM
And the following Saturday, February 8th, the candlelight hike will take place at Devil’s Lake State Park from 5 -8 PM. Another attraction within in the park is the Steinke Basin Loop which is accessed by the South Shore of Devils Lake.

One of our favorite Baraboo Winter activities for the whole family is sledding! Located near St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, Steinhorst Park is a very popular sledding spot. There is also a hill that runs down into Quartzite Campground at Devil’s Lake.
If you are looking for a faster experience? Tube Town at Cascade Mountain is an amazing fun afternoon! Check out the special that offers a $15 rate per person if you arrive 4 hours or less before the close.
Poppy Waterman Ice Arena is located in Wisconsin Dells. They host a public skate every Sunday from 5-7 PM and every Wednesday from 6-8 PM. Skate rentals are available in the rink.
Langer Park Outdoor ice skating Rink | The outdoor ice skating rinks at Langer Park and Weber Park will be available as weather permits – typically Mid-Late December as conditions allow. Langer Park -also offers a supervised warming house with hours on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6-8pm, Wednesdays 2-5pm as well as Saturday & Sunday 1-5pm – once the rinks are open for use.
Pierce Park Indoor Ice Pavillion | Indoor ice skating is available at the Pierce Park Pavilion from 6-9 pm on Sundays during the winter months. Cost is $2 per person (under 5 FREE). Family Passes are $40 for the season. Skate rental is available for $3. For more information, call 355-1151.
